At the Davao airport, Sekkingstad was welcomed by Norwegian Ambassador to the Philippines Eric Forner.

Sekkingstad was released by the Abu Sayyaf Group to the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) in Patikul, Sulu on Saturday afternoon after almost a year in captivity.

From Patikul, Dureza brought Sekkingstad to a military camp in Jolo and then to Davao City.
