Liberal Party President Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan revealed the possible candidates of the so-called “The Resistance” in the 2019 midterm elections.
According to the leader of Liberal Party, they’re forming a coalition and trying to convince different parties, and individuals to join the genuine opposition in the Senate.
Pangilinan bared during an interview with Karen Davila that they’re trying to convince the actress Agot Isidro to run for senator.
This made Davila smile and surprised that Liberal Party wants Isidro to enter politics.
“We’ve discussed this, we had several meetings, not on her campaign, not for being a candidate, but on issues affected the nation today, on extrajudicial killings, on China, so she’s very active,” Pangilinan said.
“In one of those meetings, not a political campaign meeting, we asked her the question she’s open,” he added.
However, it seems that Isidro was also surprised by the question to her by the Liberal party representatives.
“Of course, she was hesitant. But then we said, precisely, that we need more women to step up and so she said, ‘Okay, you can consider it but let me think about it also. We’re still convincing her,” Pangilinan told Davila during the interview.
Isidro gathered the attention of social media after she called President Rodrigo Duterte a “psychopath”.
This is her response before after President Rodrigo Duterte threatened to refuse the aid from United Nations, European Union, and the United States amid the criticisms that he received because of the war against illegal drugs.
“Unang-una, walang umaaway sa iyo. As a matter of fact, ikaw ang nang-aaway. Pangalawa, yung bansa Kung saan ka inuluklok ng 16 million out of 100+ million people ay Third World. Kung makapagsalita ka parang superpower and pilipinas eh. At excuse me, ayaw namin magutom.” Isidro wrote in 2016.
“Mag-isa ka na Lang. wag kang mandamay. Hindi na nga nakakain ang nakararami, gugutumin mo pa lalo. Pangatlo, may kilala along psychiatrist. Patingin ka. Hindi ka bipolar. You are a psychopath,” she wrote on Facebook.” she added.
Aside from Isidro, the coalition being formed by Liberal Party also eyed Sen. Bam Aquino, Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano, former Akbayan party-list Rep. Barry Gutierrez, LP Vice President for External Affairs Lorenzo “Erin” Tañada and De La Salle University College of Law Dean Jose Manuel Diokno to join the genuine opposition.
