The west is terrified of Duterte because if he succeeds the effects will snowball in Asia and perhaps spread beyond. He soundly defeated the western interests at instigating a war over the South China Sea reaching a win-win solution with China. The people here fear that the US will use the Filipino people as cannon fodder in a war with China and Duterte stopped a potential nuclear holocaust without firing a single bullet and with a few well placed swear words. Americans don't know it, but Duterte saved America from itself.
