GOOD NEWS PO!! PRES.RODRIGO DUTERTE WILL OFFICIALLY SWITCH ON THE FIRST PROTOTYPE SOLAR IRRIGATION SYSTEM. MUST WATCH THIS!
KIDAPAWAN CITY - President Rodrigo Duterte will officially switch on the first prototype of a solar powered irrigation system in a remote village in Mlang, Cotabato this week, a top agriculture official confirmed Monday.
Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel “Manny” Piñol said Duterte is expected to do the honors at the project site in Barangay New Janiuay.
He will be welcomed by local officials from various towns in Cotabato and neighboring provinces along with farmer beneficiaries of the said project.
Piñol disclosed that when he was in California, he asked a Filipino-American to develop a prototype solar irrigation project particularly for the upland areas in Cotabato province.
Barangay New Janiuay was chosen to be the pilot area.
“The project is located in the middle of a ricefield bordering a vast sugarcane plantation in one of the barangays in Mlang,” Piñol said.
The Agriculture secretary said the project in Mlang will serve as a model for future similar projects to be established in areas that depend on rain as source of water.
Piñol said the irrigation system can pump out at least 600 to 800 gallons of water per minute, more than enough to irrigate three to four hectares of ricefields in a day.
At least 50 pieces of solar panels have been installed that can operate even during rainy days.
Piñol said the solar irrigation project in Mlang could provide water to an estimated 100 hectares every planting season.
Some 200 farmers in the said village could benefit from the project, Piñol said.
“This would allow our farmers in Barangay New Janiuay to plant at least two times a year,” he said.
The Agriculture secretary believes the project will not only contribute to greater food production but will also help address poverty and malnutrition.
