WATCH! COMMISION OF APPOINTMENTS(CA) REJECTED GINA LOPEZ AS THE SECRETARY OF THE DENR....
On April 3, Wednesday, the Commission of Appointments (CA) rejected Gina Lopez’s appeal to be reinstated as the Secretary of the Department of the Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
This was following Lopez’s opposition against the closure of 23 mines and the suspension of five mining companies.
Philippine Daily Inquirer reported that Rodrigo Duterte appointed her again when she failed to get the approval of the CA before the Congress last March 15.
Her appeal to be reinstated had reached the executive level at the Senate. It was reported that at least three Senators proclaimed they would vote for Lopez, namely Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, Senator Manny Pacquiao, Senator Joseph Victir “JV” Ejercito.
Ejercito stated: “It’s not often you find somebody who has that courage to go against the giant mining firms, the tycoons of the mining industry.”
“So whatever they said about her (Lopez), let’s not miss this opportunity pass with somebody who would really implement ‘yung (the) mining law, without fear or favor,” he finished.
This was not the first time that Lopez’s reappointment has faced issues.

On April 19, it was reported by Philippine Star that Ronald Recidiro, the VP of the Chamber of Mines of the Philippines (COMP) Legal and Policy, said: “It is very unfortunate. We maintain our opposition and we hope that the CA will really look into the qualifications. Lopez is really not qualified.”
