Just In - IMPLEMENTING THE NATIONWIDE SMOKING BAN, IPAPATUPAD NA. MUST READ THIS!
MANILA -- The Philippines will follow the "Davao experience" in implementing the nationwide smoking ban, President Rodrigo Duterte said on before leaving for a state visit to Brunei and China on Sunday.
"It will be followed and the implementation will follow the Davao experience," he said.
This means smokers must find designated areas that are not enclosed once the ban comes to effect.
"If you want to smoke, find a place where it is allowed. It must be out. It must not be in an enclosed cubicle in a building," Duterte said.
Earlier this month, Health Secretary Paulyn Ubial told reporters that the President is likely to sign an executive order banning smoking in public areas.

The proposed smoking ban mirrors on a national level the anti-smoking law in Davao City, where Duterte served as mayor for 22 years.
Penalties for breaking the anti-smoking law in Davao range from a P5,000 fine to four months in prison.
