Filipinos had a glimpse of the new “high security passport,” and is now available to all especially to those who wished to work or travel abroad, according to Malacañang.
Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar announces the printing of new passports starting last August. The new passports have an improved design that features the regions of the country and an upgraded microchip security feature to capture the personal data of the applicant, invisible UV fluorescent ink and thread, and elaborate design when subject to UV light.
The APO Production Unit is tasked to produce the Philippine passports, and is a government owned and controlled corporation under the Presidential Communications Office.
Each passport is also added with security features like a microchip that contains personal data of the applicant or the passport holder, with an invisible UV fluorescent ink and thread and an elaborate design when placed in UV light.
Secretary Andanar assured that there will be no more problems or delays in printing the passports.
“The new APO printing system increases the production speed of the new passports to 35%, this means the new passport printing system results to delivery of passports from press to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to an average of 5 days compared to 7-14 days previously,” he said.
On the other news, the DFA branch at Ortigas, Robinson’s Galleria is now fully converted to an OFW Branch to cater solely for OFW services. OFWs can now process their passport renewal for only 30 minutes to one day, according to reports.
