Many netizens became concerned over this new modus operandi by robbers.

According to a post by netizen Daisy San Pedro-de Sahagun, robbers mark the target houses with a dollar sign using a permanent marker. They are usually written on the houses' walls or gates. Many of these incidents have already occurred in Marikina City – specifically, Tangerine St., Olive St. and Hacienda Ave.

De Sahagun further said that her cousin discovered a dollar sign on her house's wall and immediately informed the police. According to the authorities, suspects have been using the mark and confirmed that it was thief’s code for robbery.

The police then roamed around the vicinity to check for the same markings. They advised everyone to take extra precautions and to always ensure their houses' security.

CCTV cameras and alarms can be a great help in deterring and identifying these robbers. It is also best if we keep important numbers in our phones, like the Barangay and the PNP hotlines in case of emergencies.

Meanwhile, netizens are urging the Marikina Municipal office to do something about the new modus operandi to ensure the safety of everyday citizens.
