US Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim recognizes President Rodrigo Duterte's concern over drug  abuse and criminality in the country, a television report said Thursday.
GMA News also reported that Kim supports the Philippines in regard to law enforcement matters.

"I fully understand why President Duterte is so worried about the drug problem, corruption and about the crime problem, that's why we want to continue to cooperate with them in the law enforcement area," Kim said.

"Obviously, we have some concerns with that aspect on the drug campaign but I really hope that people will not view this as somehow an American concern being imposed on the Philippines," He added.

Also, the report said that President Duterte had a "productive meeting" with the new US ambassador to Manila last January 15 in Davao City.
In the that meeting, the Philippine-US military partnership was also discussed. 
Late last year, Duterte lashed at outgoing US President Barack Obama for raising human-rights violation issues on the Philippine government's bloody war on drugs and for "meddling" in the country's internal affairs.

Kim's predecessor Philip Goldberg had also been a subject of Duterte's harsh remarks for following Obama's lead in criticizing Manila's heightened drive against illegal drugs and criminality.
