“The president of the Philippines has admitted killing people again. And now he says he’ll throw criminals out of a helicopter,” wrote news site AJ+ as caption to a short clip which showed Pres. Rodrigo Duterte ‘admitting’ that he had killed people before and feels no qualms in doing it again.
In the video, Duterte said that he will take corrupt people on a helicopter ride and throw them out – something that he had supposedly done in the past to a criminal; however, there has been no evidence that such had actually happened and this could be just another hyperbole or joke the president made to toy with the media.
While many of those who defended Duterte were Filipinos, there were actually some foreign nationals who joined in on the discussion. Many told the site to mind their own business and to let Filipinos deal with their problems.
Others had different ideas. For instance, one Indonesian lady wrote, “The number of corruption in Indonesia is still in the top 5, in the world. So Philippines, if you don’t want him, we (Indonesians) want to have him here.”
The comment was well-received by Duterte’s supporters and has received over 1,700 ‘likes’! Many replied that it was great that a foreigner sees the Philippine president for what he actually is and that they hope other Filipinos would soon follow suit to admire Duterte instead of only seeing the perceived negative aspects of his presidency.
