Viral Duterte News Updates - Ex- Senator Osmeña Hits President Duterte's 'mishandling' of PHL's Foreign Affairs. Must Read This!

Former Senator Sergio Osmeña III on Monday hit President Rodrigo Duterte’s “mishandling” of foreign affairs amid the Philippines’ shift away from the United States.

In an interview with reporters, Osmeña was asked for his thoughts on how Duterte was handling the country’s foreign affairs, to which he replied: “Handling? Mishandling.”

“Lahat na ginagawa ng diplomats natin, kumakamot sila ng ulo eh… Normally, if there’s going to be a major change, nawa-warn na people on the ground. Pero dito, biglang lumalabas sa bibig niya sa isang presscon,” Osmeña said.

“He’s got a stream of thought and his people are trying to cover up. It doesn’t make us look good in the eyes of the world,” he said.

Osmeña said Duterte appeared to have taken the criticisms against his anti-illegal drugs campaign personally as he continued to launch tirades against the US.

While in a state visit in China, Duterte declared that he was breaking the Philippines’ military and economic alliance with the US. Days later, he said there will be a “separation of foreign policy,” but no cutting of diplomatic ties.

Duterte also said in Beijing that he wants to realign himself with the “ideological flow” of China and that it will be China, Philippines, and Russia “against the world.”

“Sabi ni President Duterte, kaibigan niya ‘yung Russia and China, hindi nakikialam. Eh they’re the two biggest violators of human rights, how do you expect them to criticize you?” Osmeña said.

“There are more precise language that is used in diplomacy so hindi puwede atras-abante and it happens the whole time. The President says something then it has to be explained again by one of his secretaries, pagkatapos nagkakaloko-loko na,” he added.

The former senator said statements relating to foreign policy must be thought of thoroughly, with consultations from the National Security Council and the Cabinet.

“We’re not supposed to make enemies , we’re supposed to make friends,” Osmeña said.
